Located at 749 Pandora Avenue, Mike Gidora Place started as the vision of Cool Aid’s former financial administrator Mike Gidora, and remains the only Cool Aid building named in a person’s honour.
Upon opening in 2000, the building provided 45 units of purpose-built, small suite design, affordable housing for low income, urban singles, with a minimum of ten units subsidized by BC Housing. More recently, however, additional funding from BC Housing and Vancouver Island Health Authority has allowed Cool Aid to provide 45 subsidized units with 24/7 staffing support for the tenants.
Like all of Cool Aid’s Supportive Housing buildings, Mike Gidora Place has the security features and 24-hour staffing that ensure its residents have a safe, welcoming home with access to the help they need.
Also incorporated into the building’s main floor is Cool Aid’s Central Services and Housing office space. A report available online outlines the vision and steps undertaken in the development and construction of the property.
Mike Gidora Place is made possible with the support of:
- Province of BC and BC Housing
- Island Health
- City of Victoria (tax exemption)
