Rising housing costs are putting significant pressure on many people in the capital region. The creation of affordable market rental housing helps to ensure that more people have the dignity that comes with a place to call home.
Affordable Market Rental Housing
In recent years, we’ve added 151 affordable market rental units to help address the capital region’s growing housing crisis. Our affordable market units are available to individuals and families, with many geared-to-income and subsidized rental rates. To qualify for Cool Aid affordable market housing, applicants must have income that does not exceed limits set by BC Housing.
Crosstown
Opening in early 2025, Crosstown will offer 100 units of subsidized, near-market, and affordable market housing including studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites, plus accessible options. A unique mixed-use development on Burnside Road at Finlayson Ave., Crosstown also houses a day care centre and four live/work spaces.
The Chestnut
The 51 units of affordable market housing located at 210 Gorge Road include studio, one- and two-bedroom suites, plus accessible options. With secured parking and bike storage, The Chestnut is conveniently located on several major bus routes and is only minutes from downtown Victoria.
Mount Edwards
(3rd Floor)
The third floor at Mount Edwards offers 15 units of affordable market housing for seniors over the age of 55. There are two studio apartments and 13 one-bedroom apartments, all conveniently located near the YMCA, downtown Victoria, and Cook Street Village.
Subsidized Housing
We support people living on low incomes by providing them with suitable long-term accommodations. Subsidized rental fees are calculated on a rent-geared-to-income basis. You may be eligible for subsidized housing if you can live independently and meet the household, residency, income, and assets criteria. Please note, you will need to provide your BC Housing file number when applying.
